The Modesto Quarterback Club will hold its first meeting of the 2015 football season today at Coach’s Corner, 950 Oakdale Road, at noon.

A buffet lunch will be served for $10.

The club meets each Monday, honoring one of the city’s 11 teams – Beyer, Big Valley Christian, Central Catholic, Davis, Downey, Enochs, Gregori, Johansen, Modesto, Modesto Christian and Modesto Junior College.

The meeting scheduled for Sept. 7 – Labor Day – will be moved to Sept. 8 because of the holiday.

Coaches in attendance take turns discussing their team’s previous game, their upcoming game and answering questions from the audience. Schools earn points for their attendance at meetings and, at the end of the year, get a share of the club’s proceeds based on the percentage of meetings attended.

“We’ve made tremendous growth the past three years,” said club president Steve Goodyear, a former teacher and coach in the Modesto City Schools district. “We’re anxious to continue to move forward.”

The 2015 season gets underway Friday night with 26 games involving Stanislaus District teams.

This year’s high school football preseason edition will be published Thursday. It will feature profiles on key players from the eight conferences covered by The Bee, plus schedules, capsules, predictions and more.
