MLB Home Run Derby Prize Money, Records, and Every Winner Since 1985

Even with football breathing down its neck, MLB All-Star weekend and the Midsummer Classic can still draw fans' attention during an otherwise sluggish sports calendar.

One event in particular -- the annual Home Run Derby -- still reigns supreme among baseball's July festivities.

This year's competition brings MLB's best to Philadelphia, where the derby is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET on Netflix on Monday, July 13.

In preparation, we've compiled some key details to know about the beloved event, which dates back to its first official showcase in 1985.

The 2026 Home Run Derby prize pool totals $2.5 million, a substantial increase introduced by Major League Baseball in 2019.

Each of the eight participating sluggers gets $150,000 for competing, and one player can earn an additional $100,000 bonus for hitting the longest home run of the night.

The derby winner now takes home $1 million, while the second-place finisher still walks away with a cool $500,000. The champion also receives a flashy chain, this year in the shape of the iconic Liberty Bell.
