Red Sox's Ceddanne Rafaela Receives Good News on Friday

The Boston Red Sox received encouraging news ahead of the All-Star break on Friday as center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela was named to the American League All-Star roster. Rafaela earned his first career selection as an injury replacement for New York Yankees star Aaron Judge, who is sidelined by a recurring torn ligament in his big toe.

The honor caps a breakout first half for the 25-year-old, who has developed into one of Boston's most valuable everyday players.

Rafaela becomes the fourth Red Sox player selected to the American League roster despite the club entering the weekend at 43-48 and looking to build momentum before the second half.

Rafaela has appeared in 87 games this season, batting .283 with eight home runs, 39 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and a .767 OPS. His all-around production has been worth 3.9 WAR, highlighting his emergence as one of the American League's most complete young outfielders.

While his offensive improvement has fueled his breakout campaign, Rafaela's defense has remained elite. He ranks in the 99th percentile in Fielding Run Value and is tied for fourth in Major League Baseball with 15 Defensive Runs Saved, making him one of the league's premier defensive center fielders.

Those contributions made Rafaela a deserving choice to replace Judge on the American League roster, rewarding a season in which he has taken another step forward as an everyday contributor.

Rafaela will head to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 14. His first All-Star selection represents another milestone in his career and recognizes the impact he has made on both sides of the ball throughout the first half.

For Boston, Rafaela's selection provides another bright spot as the Red Sox look to carry positive momentum into the second half and continue climbing the American League standings.
