Exploring Canada Footballer Stephen Eustáquio's Personal Life- Girlfriend, Parents, Children, Ethnicity and More
Canada midfielder Stephen Eustáquio has become one of the country's most influential footballers, playing a pivotal role in Canada's historic run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 29-year-old enjoyed perhaps the greatest moment of his career on June 28, 2026, when he scored a dramatic 92nd-minute winner against South Africa, sealing Canada's first-ever knockout-stage victory in a men's FIFA World Cup. His composed low volley earned him the Player of the Match award and sent Canada into the Round of 16.
Away from the pitch, Eustáquio is a devoted family man whose journey has been shaped by love, sacrifice, and heartbreaking personal loss.
Fiancée and Children
Stephen Eustáquio is engaged to his longtime partner, Constança Damião, a Portuguese fashion designer and founder of the clothing brand Coudie.
The couple got engaged in May 2025 and welcomed their first child, a daughter named Benedita, in April 2024. While they occasionally share family photos on social media, they generally prefer to keep their private life out of the spotlight.
Following Canada's historic World Cup win over South Africa, Eustáquio delivered an emotional interview, saying everything he does is for his family.
"Everything I do is for my parents, for my fiancée, for my daughter, for my brother, for my friends back home."
Parents and Family
Eustáquio was born on December 21, 1996, in Leamington, Ontario, to Portuguese parents Armando and Esmeralda Eustáquio.
Originally from Nazaré, Portugal, his parents spent around a decade living in Canada before moving the family back to Portugal when Stephen was still a child. There, he developed as a footballer through Portuguese academies before launching his professional career.
His parents played a huge role in helping him achieve his dream. His mother drove him to training sessions and matches, while his father worked hard to support the family.
Sadly, Eustáquio lost both of his parents in consecutive years. His mother, Esmeralda, died from brain cancer in 2023, and his father, Armando, passed away after suffering a heart attack in 2024.
Ethnicity and Background
Although he represents Canada, Stephen Eustáquio is proudly of Portuguese descent and holds Canadian and Portuguese citizenship.
He spent much of his childhood in Portugal and even represented Portugal's Under-21 national team before deciding to play for Canada at senior level in 2019.
He is also very close to his older brother, Mauro Eustáquio, a former professional footballer who has supported him throughout his career.
