San Diego's best to pack Petco for Sunday's high school all-star game

The 2025-26 high school sports season reaches its unofficial end on Sunday, when the best baseball players from throughout the San Diego Section gather for the Padres High School Baseball All-Star Game at Petco Park.

Played in an East-vs.-West format, the game will take place following the Padres-Dodgers game at the MLB ballpark.

The East team boasts six first-team All-CIF players and a trio of second-teamers. There are 15 players on the East squad headed to college.

East catcher Trevor Hoff of Classical Academy led the San Diego Section with a .696 batting average, had seven home runs and 56 RBIs. Shortstop Ryall Campbell of San Pasqual is headed to San Diego State and hit .526.

Catcher Owen Glick from Rancho Bernardo will play at UC San Diego next season after hitting 10 homers with 34 RBIs for the Broncos while RB’s Brady Strachan hit eight homers with 34 RBIs.

Ozyel Villanueva, a pitcher/infielder from Brawley, was a first-team All-CIF selection after going 7-2 on the mound while hitting eight homers with 45 RBIs.

The Gunn brothers - pitcher Brady and outfielder Jimmy - from Patrick Henry are headed to Texas Tech. Brady Gunn was a first-team All-CIF player, while Jimmy Gunn was a second-teamer.

Southwest-El Centro pitcher Johrden Niebla is the son of Padres pitching coach Rueben Niebla. Johrden was 8-2 with a 1.42 ERA and is headed to Point Loma Nazarene.

The West has seven first-team All-CIF players and five who were on the second team. The West has 18 players headed to college.

The West team is led by Cathedral Catholic junior outfielder Josh Priest, who was named the CIF San Diego Section Player of the Year after hitting .528. He’s joined by teammate Jose Partida, a fellow junior who went 9-2 on the mound. Partida and Priest have both committed to play at Arizona State.

Outfielder Marco Reyes of Montgomery, a second-team All-CIF player, hit .519. Madison outfielder Leo Wilderman, a first-team All-CIF player, hit .458 and is headed to Northwest Nazarene while teammate Jorge Luque, a second-team All-CIF player, hit .452 with 30 RBIs.

The West’s top pitchers are Mt. Carmel’s Kelle Leuck, who went 8-0 and is headed to UC San Diego, and Maranatha Christian’s Shane Piester, who went 7-0 and will play at Biola.

University City outfielder AJ Curry is headed to Tennessee while Cathedral Catholic third baseman Trey Kotsay, the son of Athletics manager Mark Kotsay, is headed to Princeton.
