Inside Antonio Rüdiger's Family Life - Wife, Children, Parents, Ethnicity & More About the German Footballer

Germany are all set to take on Curaçao in their Group E opener at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Julian Nagelsmann's side are among the favourites to finish at the top of the group, which also includes Ivory Coast and Ecuador.

Heading into the tournament, Germany have several experienced players who have enjoyed success at the highest level of European football. One of them is Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger. The centre-back has won major trophies during his time in Spain and previously with Chelsea in England.

Having lifted the UEFA Champions League twice and won La Liga, Rüdiger remains an important figure in the German national team as they look to make a statement at the World Cup.

As Germany prepares to face Curaçao, here is a closer look at Rüdiger's life away from football.

Antonio Rüdiger's Parents and Ethnicity

Antonio Rüdiger was born on March 3, 1993, in Berlin, Germany, to Lily and Matthias Rüdiger.

His mother, Lily Rüdiger, fled Sierra Leone in 1991 to escape the country's civil war. His father, Matthias Rüdiger, is Afro-German.

The pair met in Berlin and raised their family in Neukölln, a district known for its large immigrant and refugee communities.

While Matthias worked in restaurants to support the family, Lily focused on raising their children at home. Rüdiger has often spoken proudly about his background and the sacrifices his parents made.

Rüdiger is of mixed Afro-German and Sierra Leonean heritage. Although he was born and raised in Germany and chose to represent the German national team, he has always maintained a strong connection to his African roots.

Over the years, he has frequently visited Sierra Leone and has publicly shown his pride in his heritage. After winning the UEFA Champions League, he celebrated while carrying the Sierra Leonean flag.

All About Antonio Rüdiger's Wife and Children

Antonio Rüdiger is married to Laura Rüdiger.

The couple have kept their relationship largely private throughout Rüdiger's career. The Germany international has previously explained that his wife prefers to stay away from public attention and rarely appears on his social media accounts.

Laura is German, and together they have two children. Their son, Djamal Sahr Rüdiger, was born in February 2020, while their daughter, Aaliyah Trophy Rüdiger, was born in June 2021.

Despite being one of Germany's most recognizable footballers, Rüdiger continues to keep much of his family life away from the public eye.
