Taylor Swift Fans Demanding Apology From 'Rude' Knicks Announcer
Taylor Swift didn't grow up in New York, but she's a Knicks fan.
The iconic pop star has been attending Knicks games for years. She spends most of her time in New York City. Swift was in attendance at Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night. The game will go down as one of the most legendary in NBA history. The Knicks erased a 29-point deficit to win the game and go up, 3-1, heading into Game 5.
But earlier in the game, Knicks radio announcer Monica McNutt was caught trashing Swift and accusing her of being a fake fan.
"It's for my wife," play-by-play announcer Tyler Murray could be heard saying as he takes a photo with his phone, according to video published by the New York Post.
"She's not a Knicks fan. Get out of here, girl!" McNutt says.
Taylor Swift's fans, understandably, are not happy. They're demanding an apology from McNutt. Some are going as far to suggest that she should be fired.
"Rude!" one wrote.
"She must be fired for this outrageous language," one fan wrote.
Another fan added added, "The swifties might actually hang this woman."
Some, however, are defending McNutt, writing: "I had the same thoughts as the girl. Why is she there."
Travis Kelce defends Taylor Swift's Knicks fandom
Swift attended an Eastern Conference Finals game featuring the Cavs and the Knicks, with her soon-to-be husband, Travis Kelce.
Kelce said on his "New Heights" podcast that she has a loyalty to the Knicks like no other professional teams.
"Not a lot of teams have been able to get Taylor to wear a jersey, and the Knicks did," Kelce said in May. "... Tay's got a lot of New York ties. When it came down to going to the Cavs game, she was like, ‘Oh nice, they're playing the Knicks, sweet! I've seen them play before.' It was fun."
