Mina Kimes Appearing On 'Celebrity Jeopardy! All-Stars' Tonight
Sports fans may have a particular interest in Tuesday night's Celebrity Jeopardy! All-Stars matchup.
Mina Kimes will compete in the ABC game show's semifinal event. The NFL Live analyst will face a friend and former ESPN colleague, Katie Nolan, as well as Abbott Elementary star Lisa Ann Walter.
ABC will air the Jeopardy! episode on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET, and it'll stream on Hulu the next day. Two more semifinal showdowns will take place on Wednesday and Thursday before the three winners vie for a $1 million prize for their selected charity in Friday's finals.
Kimes reflects on Jeopardy! win
Kimes advanced to the semifinals with a convincing quarterfinal victory over Andy Richter and Timothy Simons. The Yale alum didn't need to wager a dollar on Final Jeopardy to secure the triumph with $17,100.
Jeopardy! shared a message from Kimes after she wrapped up a fairly undramatic win.
"It was a locked game, so I didn't have to bid anything for Final Jeopardy," Kimes said in an Instagram video. "Which was amazing, because that was incredibly stressful to me. I was thinking about the wagering. It didn't matter. But yeah, it was a lot of fun.
"It was hard! The competition in this tournament is definitely very challenging, so I'm excited about the next round."
Kimes discussed her Jeopardy! showing in more detail during a podcast appearance on Pablo Torre Finds Out alongside Simons. One would think Walter should be crossing her fingers for no sports categories, but Kimes actually didn't want to get tested on her area of expertise at first.
"I was really hoping there'd be no sports categories because it would be so shameful for me to miss a sports question," Kimes said. "But then I remembered that on Jeopardy, sports is the easiest category every time."
Kimes also made the semifinals last year, where she narrowly fell short to David Friedberg. Learning from her past experience, Kimes focused on not getting rattled by the buzzer.
"Last time, I got so upset about getting locked out, and I felt like my emotions got the best of me," Kimes admitted. "So this time, my biggest priority going into this, I didn't study, but I remembered from last time, stay calm. Once you find a rhythm, stay in the rhythm."
Kimes did breathing exercises and repeated a mantra that helped her stay in the zone.
"I paused. I took a few deep breaths, and I said to myself, 'You are Nino's mom. You are going to win,'" Kimes recalled. "And then I locked in, so it was like my Tom Brady thing."
