Kadry on Bowling: Sign-ups are open for fall leagues at Modesto centers
As summer leagues go into the last few weeks of competition, sign-ups for fall leagues are beginning.
On the schedules are the popular package leagues offering trips, bowling equipment or other incentives. There are openings for singles, couples and teams in leagues that are offered every day and evening. Youth, senior and adult programs offer spots for the beginner to the advanced bowler. Leagues are scheduled to start Sept. 8.

This Saturday, the San Joaquin Bowling Club will bring the SJBC Singles Tournament to Yosemite. Participants will bowl five games of qualifying with stepladder finals immediately following. Check-in is at 10 a.m., and tournament scoring starts at 11. Cost is $60. Annual membership in the SJBC is $20, or bowl as a guest for a fee of $10. Bob Heller won the men’s side of the McHenry Senior No-Tap Tournament with a 941 set, including a no-tap 300 game. Harry Holton finished second at 863. Eddie Lewis took third with an 852 set. On the ladies’ prize list, Linda Standridge took the top honor with her 881 series. Kim Heller tallied an 836 for second, and TJ Jensen was third with an 821 total. ...

Entries are out for the Top Dog Senior Scratch Tournament on Oct. 17 at McHenry. The Dog has three rounds of competition. Everyone starts with three games, then the top 20 bowl one more game. The field is cut in half for one more game, and the top four will compete in stepladder finals to determine the Top Dog for 2015. Participants must be 55 years or older as of the tournament date. USBC Bronze Certified Coach Steve Plant Sr. is running drop-in instruction classes every Thursday at McHenry for beginner to advanced bowlers. Class time is 12:30 p.m. and includes instruction, bowling and a snack for $5 per person. ...
The Storm Open Festival of Bowling and the National Mixed Tournament are running at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno through Nov. 1. The Storm Open has eight events, including open team (any combo of four players), open doubles (any combo), open singles, senior doubles (age 50 and older, any combo), senior singles, six-game scratch singles, adult/junior doubles (any combo) and junior singles. There also are mixed team, doubles and singles divisions. Bowlers can bowl multiple events, and walk-ins are welcome. The prize fund is estimated at more than $150,000. Combined hotel and tournament packages are available with Circus Circus, El Dorado and Silver Legacy. Entries are at the bowling centers or online at nationalmixed.com.
