Bowling Hall of Fame moving to Texas

The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame (IBM/HF) Board of Trustees voted unanimously this week to move the Hall of Fame from its current location in St. Louis to Arlington, Texas.

The museum currently shares its space with the St. Louis Cardinals' Hall of Fame Museum. It is on property slated for a new development called Ballpark Village, a partnership between the Cardinal's organization and Cordish County.

The IBM/HF was offered space in the new development, but felt it was best to join the other major national bowling entities in a new consolidated headquarters in Arlington.

The new Museum and Hall of Fame will be located in a new building that will house bowling's two national entities, the United States Bowling Congress and the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America. The 103,000 square foot headquarters will house the USBC and BPAA on the upper floors, with the museum on the first level. The facility should be opening in about 18 months.

On the local scene, Manny and Inez Simas blew away the field in the McHenry Senior Doubles No-Tap Tournament with a team total of 1,770. Manny posted a 300 game, and added games of 264-278 to the winning total. With a 100-pin gap, Perry Nichols teamed up with Richard Weiglein to roll the second-place score of 1,670. And in a close third spot, only one pin down, Ken Kohler and Harry Holton finished at 1,669.

For bowlers who have made the annual pilgrimage to Granada Bowl's Livermore Valley Tournament, it looks as though the long-running event may be at its end.

The Fanucchi families have sold the property, and are leaving the bowling business. The bowl will stay open until early next year under the temporary ownership of Ken Melton. Melton also owns Antioch's Delta Bowl. In February, Shappell Homes will be taking over the ownership and the building will be demolished to make way for a housing/office project.

ENTRIES FOR No-Tap Pro-Am Sweepers that accompany the "Vanessa Brown Homes 2008 PBA Western Region" at Yosemite Lanes are available at both bowling centers. The sweepers will run on Friday June 27 at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. The field will be divided into three divisions: Adults, Seniors, and Juniors, each with their own prize funds.

Participants will bowl with a different PBA pro each game of three games. The participants' and pros' scores plus handicap will determine the winners. As an added bonus, all bowlers will receive a certificate good for a 3-day/2-night stay at the Sands Regency in Reno. The official PBA competition will run Saturday with qualifying squads, and Sunday for the Finals.

THE PEACH SINGLES Classic Tournament at McHenry and the Save Mart Summer Doubles at Yosemite are in progress now through July 27. The Peach runs weekends only with squad times of noon, 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. The Doubles can be bowled any time lanes are available. To sign up, check with Dave for the Peach at 571-2695, and Wayne for the Doubles at 524-9161.

The Outlaw Doubles is on the books at Yosemite for Saturday, June 21 at noon. Check-in is at 11 a.m. Teams may be any two bowlers of any average. The scratch event will bowl eight games on the house oil pattern for Yosemite. Contact Robert Forloine at 707-337-7759 for information.

The Junior/Senior Firecracker Doubles Tournament is set to compete at McHenry on July 4 at 1 p.m. This popular tournament fills up fast. The doubles teams need to have one senior bowler (age 55 and older) and one youth bowler (age 18 or younger or a member of a youth league). The tournament includes a BBQ lunch, a prize fund, and scholarships for the youth winners.
