The Modesto USBC, the local bowling association, has hired Pam Marksman for the position of Association Manager.

She takes over from Ed Blomdahl, who was the first manager upon the merger of the two previous associations in 2005. Blomdahl resigned last October following the purchase of his own business.

Marksman has been serving in the interim spot until applications were reviewed. She brings much experience to the position, serving previously as the secretary of the Modesto Women's Bowling Association, and working in the bowling industry for nearly 35 years.

The association manager takes care of the day-to-day operation of the association, and answers to the Board of Directors led by President Jeff Chin. The office will be located at 3700 McHenry, and she can be reached by telephone at 571-2695.

Entry forms are available for the 12th Annual City Masters Tournament presented by Brunswick and the Modesto USBC. Yosemite Lanes will host this year's event. The Masters is co-sponsored by Don's Masonry, Al's Appliance, Cal West Roofing, Yosemite Lanes, and McHenry Bowl.

Qualifying rounds are set for Saturday, April 5 at 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. and will consist of seven games, moving after each game. The top 16 bowlers will advance to the finals on Sunday, April 6 at 10 a.m.

To reserve your spot, call Wayne or Jim at 524-9161.

The Bowl for the Cure League Tournament will start Sunday at McHenry and run for four weeks through the 29th. League bowlers donating $1 will use their handicap score for their three league games for a place on the prize board. The prize board will have cash or merchandise prizes identified for each spot. The prize values are in no particular order, so the last prize spot may be one of the most valuable. Bowlers may enter and win a spot for every league session they bowl during the length of the tournament.

McHENRY BOWL has a few spots for the Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament for Bowlers set for March 15-16 at the El Dorado Casino in Reno.

Last year, McHenry's Steve Chavez won the poker tournament and brought home $3,000. If you are interested in reserving a spot, contact Pam at McHenry 571-2695.

A Senior No-tap Tournament will be held at McHenry Bowl this Friday. Competition will start at 1 p.m., with check-in at 12:30.

This is the last chance to remind everyone the deadline for nomination forms for the Modesto Bowling Hall of Fame and the 2008 Pioneer Award is this Friday. They can be turned in at McHenry Bowl before midnight, or mailed with a postmark of Feb. 1 to 3700 McHenry Ave, Modesto 95356.

All submitted nominations will be sent to the members of the Modesto Bowling Council and the Hall of Fame for their review. Voting will take place on March 12 at the joint meeting of both entities. Inductees and award winners will be officially recognized at the Annual Awards and Installation Dinner held in September.

IF YOU WOULD like some help with your bowling, Brunswick and the Modesto USBC have set up instructional mini-camps running the weekend of Feb. 9-10 at McHenry Bowl.

Classes will be two hours long and will include video analysis and personal instruction. Equipment and grip checks will also be done. Saturday is reserved for the youth classes at either noon-2 p.m. or 2:30-4:30. Adult classes are set for either 10 a.m.-noon or 12:30-2:30 on Sunday. Space is limited.

To hold a spot, call Scott at 522-9856 or Tim at 510-440-2167.

Dallas Kadry can be reached at mchbowl@aol.com or 571-2695.
