Kadry on Bowling: Blomdahl elected president of Modesto USBC
Ed Blomdahl will take over the helm of the Modesto USBC as president for the next term. He will be assisted by new vice president Dave Eggleston. Joining the board as directors are Jim Bass, Debbie and Jim Taliaferro, Marion Roberts and Freddy Irvin. Sharon Aronson, Gary Riley and Brady Walker were all re-elected as directors.
New officers and directors will be officially installed at the annual Installation and Awards Banquet held Nov. 7 at the Elks Lodge on Charity Way in Modesto. ...
Freddy Irvin claimed the title in the Yosemite Scratch 6-Gamer this past weekend, his second in three months. He is the only two-time champ this year, having also won the May Sweeper. Will Garber was the high qualifier of the tournament at a plus 215. Jim Gordin qualified second at a plus 46, followed by Irvin at a plus-114. Irvin ran the stepladder to meet Garber in the final match. It was a high scoring contest, with Irvin coming out on top 299-267. Irvin took home $302 and the title. Runner-up Garber pocketed $220. Next month’s 6-Gamer is the 10th annual Willie Taylor Memorial and is set for Aug. 16. It will be rolled on the Yosemite house shot. As of now, over $500 will be added to the prize fund. ...
Keith Hunter Jr. and Charlie Nishiguchi tied for first on the men’s list in the Yosemite 50 and Older No-Tap Tournament with a 916 score. Jim Cole was next at 913. Kelly Lewis was high for the ladies with an 869. Pat Baskin was second with an 855 and Tricia Norris third at 835. ...
The 66th annual Peach Classic will close the year after this weekend’s competition and a new leader has emerged. Michael Pixley, a 240-average bowler out of Fresno, rolled a 1,297 to take the lead. His posted games of 238, 267, 289, 290 and 213 for the series. This year’s guaranteed first-place prize has been increased to $2,500, and tournament officials expect a total prize fund of more than $30,000. Besides the Main Prize List, there is a High Game (both men and women), Scratch Series (both men and women) and 10-Game prize lists. Squads are at noon, 2:30 and 5 p.m., both Saturday and Sunday. The McHenry Senior Fun Day No-tap is set for this Friday at 1 p.m. Potluck starts at noon, check-in is 12:30. Seniors will bowl one game of eight-pin/no-tap, one of nine-pin/no-tap and one of regular scoring.

The San Joaquin Bowling Club (SJBC) is running the Yosemite Lanes Singles Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 22. Check-in is at 10 a.m. and tournament scoring starts at 11 a.m. Cost is $60. Participants will bowl five games of qualifying with stepladder finals immediately following. One in four will cash. Optional high game, scratch series and brackets will be available. The Top Dog Senior Scratch Tournament returns on Oct. 17 at McHenry Bowl. The Dog starts with three games of scratch bowling moving a pair after each game. The field will cut to the top 20 and bowl one more game. Again the field is cut in half to the top 10. Another game is bowled, and the top four will compete in a stepladder final to determine the Top Dog for 2015. Participants must be 55 years or older as of the tournament date.
