Kadry on Bowling: Top women gather for first Modesto USBC Queens tourney

If you’d like to see some of the top female bowlers from the area in competition, come out and watch the first Modesto USBC Queens Tournament this weekend at Yosemite Lanes.

The six-game qualifying squad is set for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The top 16 bowlers return Sunday at 9 a.m. for the two-game, double-elimination match-play finals.

Local league bowlers who bowled last winter have their 2014-15 book averages posted on Bowl.com. It’s the average normally used to enter leagues or tournaments in the 2015-16 season. To find your average, go to bowl.com mouse over the “Find a ...” tab, then click the member link. From there, you’ll find a history of your averages, including your current book average, achievements and membership history. You can also reprint your membership card there. ...

The team of Joyce Vandyke, Ann Zuidema and Linda David finished at the top in the Yosemite Ladies Luncheon Sweeper, scoring a 2,247 total. David added a 777 series to the total. Nancy Speltz, Roxanne Grubb and Jan Rupp Vigneau placed second at 2,184. Taking third with a 2,145 total was the team of Lori Hedrick, Jackie Wirth and Kathy Helfrich. ...

The 66th annual Peach Classic at McHenry Bowl is winding down with only three weekends left. Besides the main prize list, there is a high game (men and women), scratch series (men and women) and 10-game prize lists. Squads are at noon, 2:30 and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The annual open meeting for the Modesto USBC is set for July 26 at Yosemite. The offices of president, vice president and five directors will be up for election. To serve as president, you must have served as vice president. To serve as vice president, you must have served as a director for at least two years. All positions require membership in the Modesto USBC. Applications are available at either bowling center and are accepted until the meeting date. Also on the agenda will be election of convention delegates and committee reports. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. ...

Yosemite is presenting the Anytime Handicap Doubles with a Twist Tournament whenever lanes are available or during your league play. The event has four handicap divisions – mixed, men, women and century (combined 100 years of age or older). Bowlers can wheel their entry to use their scores with up to four people. The California State Open and Women’s tournament finish this year’s competition on July 26. Both events are competing at Tyme to Bowl Lanes in Oroville. Squads are Friday, Saturday and Sunday both weekends. Walk-ins are welcome. For information, check CalUSBC.com. ...

The 2015 USBC Open, Women’s and Mixed championships came to a close last week. If you bowled the Open in El Paso, Texas, or the Women’s or Mixed in Reno, the prize lists should be released in 30 days and the checks mailed soon after. Registration is open online for the 2016 USBC tournaments. The Open returns to the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, and the Women’s and Mixed move to the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas.
