MJC’s Machado will pitch at New Mexico State
Left-handed pitcher Eddie Machado, a two-year star for Modesto Junior College, will continue his career at New Mexico State.
Machado, an Oakdale High product, went 3-4 with a 2.33 ERA for the Pirates (12-23-1). He struck out 64 and walked 15 in 81 innings. He also received the $2,500 John V. Aiello Scholarship, named for the late John Aiello, brother of former MJC coach Bo Aiello.
Four other MJC players have advanced to four-year schools. Pitcher Brent Montgomery (3-4, 3.15), from Escalon, has transferred to San Francisco State. The rest of the list: Infielder Josh Miguel to Missouri Baptist, and infielder/outfielder Stephan Aguilar and infielder Joe Pedlowe to Friends University (Wichita, Kan.).
Pitman, MJC product transfers to Stanislaus – Sierrah Miller, a former Pitman High and MJC volleyball star, will return to Turlock and play for Cal State Stanislaus. The 5-foot-9 Miller, a member of coach Mallori Gibson’s first recruiting class for the Warriors, was a two-time All-Big 8 selection for MJC. She totaled 653 kills in 48 matches with a .463 hitting percentage over two years.
“Her competitive nature combined with her eagerness to learn will be very valuable to our team,” Gibson said. “She will provide depth to us on the outside and will instantly improve our already decent ball control.”
SeaDogs win invitational – The Turlock SeaDogs held serve at home and won their own SeaDog Invitational, a precursor to the Mid-Valley Swim League Championships, at Pitman. The SeaDogs totaled 1,935 points, nearly 500 points better than runner-up Ceres. Ceres edged Turlock in the girls standings.
Ripon produced the most high-point winners with seven: Adri Dorn (6-under girls), Nate Slikker (6-under boys), Sam Branco (7-8 boys), Reese Hansen (9-10 girls), Rylie Beidleman (11-12 girls), Jacob Thompson (13-14 boys) and Andria Martin (15-16 girls).
Other high-point winners: Zachary Jones of Ceres (17-18 boys), Dominque Walls of Turlock (15-16 girls), Julia Pata of Ceres (15-16 girls), Noah Cossey and Michael Tobin of Turlock (11-12 boys); Leilani Olanolan of Ceres (6-under girls) and Kaydence Bispo of Ceres (7-8 girls).
Roadrunners to Junior Olympics – Ayden Powers (9-10 boys) will lead five Central Valley Roadrunners to the Junior Olympics in Jacksonville, Fla., whic run July 27-Aug. 1. Powers qualified in the triathlon, (400 meters, shot put and high jump), won the high jump and shot and placed second in the 400.
Also advancing were McKinley King (11-12 girls) in the shot put, Mikayla Bryant (13-14 girls) in the 3,000 race walk, Dexter Williams (13-14 boys) in the 400 and Meikayla Surnip (11-12 boys) in the 80 hurdles and long jump. An additional four Roadrunner athletes will try to qualify Sunday.
