Colin Kaepernick to write a memoir about his life in football, activism

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2017 but he still wants to compete.

“My desire to play football is still there,” Kaepernick said in an interview with USA Today on Thursday. “I still train five days a week. I’m ready to go, I’m ready for a phone call, tryout, workout at any point in time. I’m still waiting on the owners and their partners to stop running from this situation. So I hope I get a call this offseason. I’ll be looking forward to it.”

While he waits for that phone call or workout, Kaepernick announced he is writing a memoir through his new company, Kaepernick Publishing, in a partnership with Audible.

In an interview with USA reporter Jarrett Bell, Kaepernick said his memoir will include reasons behind his activism and his time away from the NFL.

Kaepernick protested police brutality against African Americans and other issues by kneeling during the national anthem during the 2016 season when he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

The Pitman High alum said his publishing company will create opportunities for other writers.

“It’s not just my control over stories,” Kaepernick said. “We wanted to be able to put the power back into the hands of the people that are telling the stories and the people that are writing the stories and creating them. We didn’t want to monopolize that and hold that to ourselves. It’s something that should be distributed to the people who are putting in the work to be able to tell their stories and tell them in a genuine and authentic way.”
