Boxing show on tap at Maddux Youth Center
The Modesto Police Activities League is sponsoring the “Throw Down in Motown,” an amateur boxing event, on Saturday at the Maddux Youth Center, 615 Sierra Drive.
Alton Wiggins, 20, will fight at 152 pounds, 19-year-old Manuel Navidad will fight at 147, and Ruben Wilson, 13, will fight at 95 pounds.
Weigh-ins will be held from 8 to 11 a.m., with the action starting at 2 p.m. Admission is $10.
Youth football camp – The Building Champions Youth Football Camp, co-sponsored by Modesto Junior College and Central Catholic High School, will be June 19-20 at Central Catholic’s David Patton Field, 200 S. Carpenter Road, Modesto.
New MJC head coach Rusty Stivers will offer instruction, as will Roger Canepa, head coach of three-time CIF Division IV state champion Central Catholic.
Pirates defensive coordinator Drew Brown and CC assistant LeRoy Rocha also will be on hand to guide players through advanced instruction in offensive and defensive position techniques.
The Friday night session runs from 5:30 to 8:30, and the Saturday morning session goes from 9 to noon.
The price of the camp is $60 per athlete, which includes refreshments Friday and lunch Saturday, and a camp T-shirt.
Campers are asked to wear a T-shirt, shorts and cleats. Parents are welcome to attend.
North-South Rotary All-Star Football Game – The 30th renewal of this high school clash will be June 26 at Golden Valley High School’s Veterans Stadium in Merced. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
David Snapp of Pacheco High in Los Banos will coach the North team, while J.D. Burnett of Kerman will coach the South.
More than 100 players will represent 56 high schools in Stanislaus, Merced, San Joaquin, Mariposa, Madera and Fresno counties.
Admission is $10 or $5 with a student ID.
