Kadry on Bowling: Lanes coming to Los Banos in next few months

Los Banos can soon boast a bowling center of its own, possibly by the end of the summer.

The family fun center will include 10 lanes of bowling, a laser tag area, large arcade and party rooms. The facility will be housed in a closed theater property in the San Luis Shopping Center. Demolition is completed and construction has started on the remodel. Hiring is expected to begin in early July for an eventual staff of 18.

Local investors Yong Ye and Frank Liao are putting together the project and hope to see weekday leagues and focus on families and parties for the weekends. This is a great addition for Westsiders who now need to drive to Modesto or Atwater to bowl. ...

Local Brandon Bates took over the lead in the Peach Classic at McHenry. Bates rolled a 1,220 scratch on games of 269, 247, 213, 266 and 225. Jason Tehee of Clovis totaled a 1,213 that put him in second. The Peach guarantees a $2,500 first prize and a prize fund of $25,000. The handicap tournament runs for the next nine weekends with squads at noon, 2:30 p.m. and 5 on Saturdays and Sundays. ...

Freddy Irvin of Modesto won the May Scratch 6-Gamer at Yosemite, his first victory since April 2009. Myles Duty of Modesto led the six-game qualifying round with a whopping 1,531 (255 average), followed by Irvin with a 1,476 (246 average). In the stepladder, Irvin beat the fifth qualifier, Will Garber of Modesto, 265-238. Irvin then defeated the top seed, Duty, 227-213. Irvin earned $290 for the win and a guaranteed spot in the 2015 Tournament of Champions. Duty received $220 for his second-place finish. ...

The Vanessa Brown Homes PBA West Open tour stop will compete at Yosemite from June 19-21, running concurrently with the inaugural PBA50 Vanessa Brown Homes West Open for pros age 50 and over. Both will have qualifying rounds on June 20 at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., and finals on June 21 starting at 8 a.m. A Pro-Am will be held in conjunction with the tour stop June 19 at 3:30 p.m. and June 20 at 7:30 p.m. This is a chance to bowl with some of the top bowlers in the country. Pros will rotate across the lanes, and bowlers will have the opportunity to bowl with three. The no-tap sweeper is divided into Senior ($25 entry), Adult ($40 entry) and Junior ($20 entry) divisions. Claudelle Bonaccinie, Laverne Howe and Betty Gerritsen rolled their way into first place in the Ladies Trio No-Tap Tournament at McHenry. The trio scored a 2,394 for the win. Debbie Couch, Deana Swickard and Cindy James totaled 2,301 to place second. Finishing third was the team of Allison Rachels, Laurie Raymus and Leslie Rachels with their 2,275. ...

The Anytime Handicap Doubles with a Twist Tournament is rolling at Yosemite whenever lanes are available or during your league play. The event has four handicap divisions – Mixed, Men, Women and Century (combined 100 years of age or older). Bowlers can wheel their entry to use their scores with up to four people.
