The 49ers re-signed veteran linebacker Desmond Bishop, who finished the 2014 season on their roster, to a one-year deal after a workout Tuesday at the team facility.

Bishop, 30, played at Cal. He was a sixth-round pick by the Packers in 2007 and also has been with the Vikings and Cardinals. He played in two games for the 49ers late last season after rookie Chris Borland was put on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

Whether the team will add any inside linebackers beyond Bishop is unclear. Several, including Lance Briggs, Erin Henderson and Philip Wheeler, have drawn interest. The team looks to bulk up the position after the back-to-back retirements of Patrick Willis and Borland.

Bishop, Wheeler and Briggs – and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks – worked out Tuesday at the team facility. Henderson met with team officials last week and has a visit planned with the Jets this week.

49ers general manager Trent Baalke said last week that the team has options. They have two starter-caliber inside linebackers in NaVorro Bowman and Michael Wilhoite, along with reserves Nick Moody and Shayne Skov. The 49ers also could look for another inside linebacker in the April 30-May 2 draft. They’ve already met with several prospects.
