Kadry on Bowling: Busy tournament weekend at McHenry, Yosemite
The Modesto USBC city tournaments start this weekend for three events.
On Friday, the Senior City Doubles No-Tap Tournament kicks off at McHenry Bowl. Squad time is 1 p.m. Doubles teams may be any combination of men and women, but with only one prize list. Entrants must be 50 or older.
On Saturday and Sunday, the City Tournament runs with doubles and singles at Yosemite Lanes and teams at McHenry. Squad times are 11 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday for both events. The Youth City Singles Tournament competes at McHenry with the same time slots as the City Tournament. Youths bowl in one of two categories based on age or in the scratch category. Walk-ins are welcome for all three tournaments. ...
In the March Scratch 6-Gamer at Yosemite, Manteca’s DJ Edenstrom (1,341) led qualifying, then claimed the title. In the last match, Edenstrom defeated Wayne Garber of Modesto 255-189 for the $356 first prize and secured a spot in the Tournament of Champions. Garber collected $260 for second. ... The team of Michele Verastegui, Mary and Randy Brekke, Eric Gomes and Jasmine Coleman (3,620) won the Mexican American Bowling Organization’s tour stop at Yosemite, cashing $625. Allison Jones and Alfred Prasad won the doubles, splitting $250 after posting 1,548. ...
Frank Mendes (892) finished high for the men in the McHenry Friday No-Tap Tournament. David Rhodes (882) was second and Bill Briscoe (875) third. Linda Standridge (867) won the women’s event followed by Janet Spooner (819) and Janie Casucci (817). ... Debbie Couch, Deana Swickard and Cindy James teamed to win the Ladies No-tap Trio tournament at McHenry. They rolled a 2,290, with James firing a no-tap 300. Claudelle Bonaccinie, Laverne Howe and Betty Gerritsen (2,235) were second, followed by Teeny Allen, Charlotte Scott and Char Moscato (2,219). Congratulations to youth bowler Matthew Peters, a 19-year-old Modesto Junior College student, for bowling his first 300 game. ...
Bowling Outtfitters, located in McHenry, is hosting a Demo Day with Mike Snellbaker of Ebonite International at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. ... The California Bowlers to Veterans Link state finals are coming to McHenry on March 21. Opening ceremonies are at 10:30 a.m. followed by two squads of tournament competition. Qualifiers from throughout California will be vying in five men’s divisions and six women’s divisions. Local qualifiers for the men are Freddy Irvin, Justin Saaty, Pat Riley, Sam Ruiz and Bob Hedrick. Local women’s qualifiers are Sharon Aronson, Janet Spooner, Rhonda Newman, Teresa Duchscher, Gayle Johnson and Danyell Redick. ...
