Kadry on Bowling: Scratch 6-Gamer this Sunday
This Sunday the December Scratch 6-Gamer runs at Yosemite starting at noon. Check-in is at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $60 with optional brackets, high game, last game, and senior (50 and older) insurance available. The competition will roll on the Kegel Gateway Arch Pattern. This is the last chance for bowlers to qualify for the Jan. 8 Tournament of Champions where the field is limited to 24. The ToC field is comprised of past ToC champions, past regular 6-Gamer champions, then down the current season’s money list until the field of 24 is complete. In addition, the Bowler of the Year race sponsored by Freddy’s Tree Service will wind up after this Sunday’s sweeper. The current leader is Myles Duty with 400 points. Nick Kelly and Rich Custer are tied for the next spot with 395 points. The race pays three spots – $500 for first, $300 for second and $200 for third.
The winning team in the Yosemite Ladies Luncheon was made up of Kathy Ereso, Mary Morales and Debra Taliaferro. The trio scored a 2,232 total for the win. Nancy VanHulzen, Roseanne Martinez and Cindy James finished second with their 2,087 team series. Taking the third place honors was the team of Lori Hedrick, Jackie Wirth and Kathy Ely with a 2,062 finish.
John Mora and Betty Gerritsen won their respective prize lists in the Christmas No-tap Tournament at McHenry. Mora topped the men’s list with an 895 set. Eddie Lewis ended in a close second, scoring an 894. Taking third was David Brown with an 885 series. Gerritsen topped the ladies with an 871 total. Juanita Hickman rolled an 847 series for second. Finishing third at 828 was Debra Silva.
The Senior “55 and Older” No-Tap Tournament at Yosemite competes this Friday at 1 p.m. The singles tournament has separate prize lists for men and women. Check-in is 12:30 p.m.
If you’re looking for something to do this Thursday morning and are up for a little competition, the Kegler Trio No-tap Tournament is rolling at McHenry. Check-in is 9 a.m., competition starts at 9:30.
This Saturday the Central Valley Bowling Club will be running its singles tournament at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto. Start time is 1 p.m., check-in is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tournament fees are $40 per event. Prize money is paid out the same day. Bowlers may bowl as guests for $10 or join the club for $20. Both bowling centers will be open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Yosemite will open both days from 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. McHenry will be open Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. to midnight and Christmas Day from noon until midnight.
Christmas is nearing and the local pro shops are stocked with balls, bags and shoes for your gift-giving. For those bowlers that are hard to buy for, McHenry and Yosemite offer gift cards in any amount. And don’t forget those stocking stuffers – towels, wristbands, bank, sipper bottles and other bowling gadgets.
Reservations for the ‘New Year’s in Paris’ No-tap Tournament at McHenry are due Dec. 24. The party is set for Dec. 31. Festivities start at 11:30 a.m. with a buffet lunch. Tournament bowling begins at 12:30 p.m. Call Terry or Theresa at 209-571-2695 for reservations or information.
This year’s Strike-Out-Hunger program will run the month of December at McHenry. For every five cans of unexpired food you donate, you can bowl one free game of bowling including shoe rental. All food collected will be donated to the United Samaritans Food Program.
