Kadry on Bowling: McHenry, Yosemite offer free rounds to veterans Nov. 11

Veterans Day is Friday and a good time to remember and pay tribute to the men and women who have served our country.

McHenry Bowl will offer two free games of bowling, including shoes all day and evening, to veterans and military personnel with proper identification. Yosemite Pro Shop and Bowling Outfitters at McHenry will have a Veterans Day sale Friday for all veterans. At Yosemite, there will be sales on bowling balls, bags and shoes.

Modesto has three veteran leagues: Wednesday and Friday mornings at McHenry and Monday morning at Yosemite Lanes. Stop by one of these leagues to thank those veterans for their service to our country.

▪ On Sunday, the November edition of the Scratch-6 Gamer is at Yosemite. The tournament will use the PBA Scorpion oil pattern. For bowlers who haven’t bowled or only bowled one event this year, it takes two to be in the running for the year-end Tournament of Champions. You have this tournament and December’s to fill that requirement. Points are still available for the Bowler of the Year race. First place pays $500, and Nick Kelley is leading with 390 points. Second pays $300 and third is $200. Check-in is at 11 a.m. and bowling is at noon.

▪ The Mexican American Tournament returns to Yosemite Lanes on Saturday. Call Bonnie at 209-524-9161 for information.

▪ Claudelle Bonaccinie, Laverne Howe and Betty Gerritsen won the Ladies Trio Team Tournament at McHenry with a score of 2,352. Kelly Napuunoa, Lynelle Haines and Joyce Lewis placed second with a 2,310, and third went to Rose Baker, Tena Cozby and Carol Hancock with a 2,230.

▪ On Friday, the Yosemite Ladies No-Tap Trios Luncheon is set to roll at 9:30 a.m. Check-in and potluck start at 9 a.m.

▪ The Central Valley Senior Bowling Club Singles Tournament will be Nov. 19 at Yosemite. Tournament scoring starts at 1 p.m. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. The field will bowl four games of qualifying. The top three will compete in a stepladder finals for the title. The club requires men to be age 55 or older and women age 50 and older. Tournament entry fee is $40. You can bowl as a guest for an additional $10 or join the club for $20. To sign up or for information, call Dave Brown at 209-549-2510 or Sheri Cole at 209-578-6670.

▪ Manteca Bowl will host a Youth-Adult-Senior Trios Tournament on Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. Check-in is from 10-10:30 a.m. Each team needs one youth bowler, one adult and one senior (age 50 and older). Cost is $15 per person. Prize money will be awarded as scholarships to the youth winners. Call Antoinette Medlin at 408-761-2433 for information or to sign up.

▪ The West Coast Challenge scratch tournament will be at Stars Recreation Center in Vacaville on Dec. 10-11. First place is $10,000. There will be two qualifying squads on Dec. 10, at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., consisting of seven games. Lanes will be oiled before each squad. Brackets and side pots will be available. On Dec. 11, the top 24 bowlers will return at 9 a.m. for eight games of match-play semifinals with a position round each game. The top five will advance to the stepladder finals. Entry fee is $250, and there are dress code requirements. Register at westcoastchallenge2016.com or call Robby Callan at 707-330-7165.
