Kadry on Bowling: Results posted for Modesto USBC Youth Singles
The Modesto USBC Youth City Singles Tournament has posted the official results for its three divisions in the event.
In the Scratch Division, Heath Roman won with a 715 series. Riley French placed second after posting a 674 score. In the Junior/Major/Senior Handicap Division, Jimmy Brown was the leader with a 741 set. Courtney Sheppard followed, scoring a 718. Leading the Bantam/Prep Handicap Division was Joey Irvin with his 763 finish. Savannah Hyde rolled a 704 to take second.
Youth winners will be awarded scholarship prizes. The prize list from the other two tournaments that constitute the city events, the Adult City and Senior Singles, have been ruled official and checks will be available for pick-up at the bowling centers soon.
▪ Modesto newcomer Lanndyn Carnate rolled in his first Scratch 6-Gamer at Yosemite, led qualifying and went on to take the title. Carnate, formally of Arizona, topped qualifying with a 1,267. Craig Miller of Tracy was next at 1,264. The two met in the final stepladder match with Carnate winning 220-212.
Carnate took home $373 and earned a berth in the Tournament of Champions on Jan. 8 – if he bowls one more event. Bowlers are required to participate in two 6-Gamer events during the year to qualify for the T of C.
The race for 6-Gamer Bowler of the Year has tightened. Nick Kelley leads with 390 points. Within striking range are Rich Custer at 360 and Myles Duty at 310. Bowler of the Year payouts are $500, $300 and $200 for the top three places.
▪ Charlie Nishiguchi topped the men’s list in the Halloween Celebration No-Tap Tournament at McHenry with a 909 set. Joe Diel was the second with his 875 total. Ken Powers took third with an 864. Janet Spooner won the ladies’ side with her 906 series. Janice Guenther finished second at a 901. Taking third was Janie Schroop with an 892.
▪ It’s not too late to pick up your tickets for the Modesto USBC Annual Awards and Installation Dinner on Nov. 5 at the Elks Club on Charity Way. Social hour starts at 5:30 p.m. , and dinner is served at 6:30.
The new board, led by President Ed Blomdahl, will be installed. Hall of Fame inductees Freddy Irvin and Pam Marksman, 2016 Pioneer Award winners Jim and Sheri Cole, and scholarship winners Peter Kennedy, Allen Karle and Koryn Marquez will be acknowledged.
Bowlers of the Year Nick Kelley and Joann Gonzalez will be recognized. Shining Star Gracie Hickman, Marina Hair, Caiden Christensen, Scott Croce, Reanna Abreu, Yuki Claudio, Carter Christensen, Riley Murphy, Faith Miller, Vikki Walker, Ashton Russell, Andrew Tillery, Courtney Sheppard, Roman Heath and Derrick Munson will also be recognized.
▪ The 2016 PBA World Series of Bowling VIII will compete at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., from Nov. 27-Dec. 11. The World Series consists of six PBA tournaments that include the PBA Challenge, Cheetah, Chameleon, Scorpion and Shark Championships and the PBA World Championships. A Pro-Am will be conducted Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.
Cost to enter the adult portion is $99 and for youth $50. Entry fee includes the Pro-Am, ticket to the PBA World Championships on Dec. 11, PBA scorebook, participation certificate, souvenir photo with pros and a $50 coupon for the Pro Shop at the stadium. Entries are at the bowling centers or call 800-304-2695.
▪ On Nov. 7, the Ladies Trio No-Tap Tournament rolls at McHenry at 9:30 a.m. Check-in starts at 9 a.m.
