Sharon Steckman: Whiny football players need a history lesson
My husband, a veteran, and I just returned from 15 days in the Pacific Northwest. While there, we went to the movies three times – twice to theaters and once to a drive-in. All three times, the national anthem was played before the movie began. At the theater, everyone stood in respect. At the drive-in, horns honked and headlights flashed at the anthem’s conclusion! I was so impressed!
I have walked through the cemetery at Yorktown and cried as I read grave markers which read, “6 soldiers buried here,” no names, unidentified and just young boys who never had a chance at life but who were willing to die to birth this nation! I’ve strolled through Arlington, choking back tears as I gazed upon an ocean of headstones of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for me and for you ... and for whiny football players.
When people disrespect our military and our flag and everything it stands for, it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand! If were Colin’s manager, he’d be out on his ear. I’d see he never played football again! I’m sick of people saying, “it’s his right”! Makes me want to vomit!
