Maria L. Baker: After years of belittling behavior, DeMartini deserved censure
Re “YCCD trustee’s email results in censure” (Front page, Aug.12): Kudos to Jann Mathies and those on YCCD Board of Trustees who voted to censure Anne DeMartini. As a 30-year employee and retired manager of the Yosemite Community College District, it did my heart good too see DeMartini called on the carpet for her actions. Her response mirrored Donald Trump’s MO, don’t really apologize for what you did but do try to justify it. Too many years I watched that board in action, in particular DeMartini and Tom Hallinan as they belittled and ridiculed guests and staff who were making presentations or speaking to a hot topic. Managers generally take the brunt of the abusiveness of the powerful; few speak up in fear of retaliation.
DeMartini and her husband have made careers out of public office, she knows better. She was just behaving as she always has, but this time, someone had the guts to stand up to her. Definitely, not voting to keep her on the board.
