Joann Snarr: Problems with Community Hospice are not all about money

Re “Doctors blast management as they split with hospice” (Front page, Aug. 4): I have filed three formal complaints against Alexander Cohen Hospice House with the State Licensing Division, Joint Commision on Accredidation and the State Department of Public Health in Fresno on behalf of my husband, Ken Snarr. My complaint is against CEO Desha McLeod, but after reading of the full backing of the board – James Grothe, Jon Tremayne and Claudia Krausnick – I wish I had included them.

My complaints are not against the doctors servicing Hospice House; they are complaints asking for a full investigation of safety practices, adequate nurse training, ratio of patients to nurses, care and the food served – which wouldn’t meet the standards for McDonald’s. After receiving my statement from Medicare, I will be questioning the validity of some of the billing as possible Medicare fraud.

Don’t be deceived by the beautiful exterior; the inside is dangerous to the welfare of the patients. If you take your loved ones there, think twice about leaving them alone. There is a reason doctors who have dedicated years to Hospice are distancing themselves. And I don’t believe it is all about money.

Joann Snarr, Modesto
