Tim Paes: Sitting out the election is same as a vote for Hillary
Re “Can’t stand either one? Don’t vote” (Letters, Aug. 14): To the letter writer choosing to sit this one out, I’ll only say that can’t be your answer to this year’s election. As bad as it seems, a none vote is a vote for Hillary Clinton. We’re not talking about just four years; we’re talking about shaping the future of this country.
I don’t agree with your assessment about “her dedication to our country’s founding principles.” She will change the balance of the Supreme Court from conservative to liberal and that will last much more than four years, not to mention the many liberal lower-court judges she’ll have the opportunity to appoint during her term.
Would her dedication to our founding principles also include the 2nd Amendment? She’ll continue the Obama administration’s work to further erode the rights of law-abiding gun owners while doing nothing to address the criminal element. Just look at Chicago with some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, a perfect example why gun control doesn’t work. She says she’ll take on gun control on her very first day.
The Republican nominee may leave a lot to be desired, but ask yourself what Hillary will do for your traditional Republican values.
Tim Paes, Turlock
