Des Orsinelli: Time to do something about climate change, even skeptics agree

To those unsure if our warming climate is human-caused, please Google “Frank Muller climate change” and watch the 4-minute YouTube clip of this former climate-skeptic. Muller is a UC Berkeley scientist whose doubts about climate studies led him to put together his own independent team of skeptics to research the data. Their conclusion? The earth has warmed over the last few centuries and, most importantly, the only theory that explains present warming is human-caused greenhouse gases.

Here is the solution: place a small but annually increasing fee on fossil fuels until we no longer use them and rebate all of these fees equally back to Americans so that we (and especially the poor and middle class) can afford the increase costs in fossil-fuel based commodities. We can, if we act now, enjoy a livable planet consistent with conservative and liberal values.

Congressman Jeff Denham trusts the science with GMOs, efficient ag and transportation. We need him to courageously trust the science showing climate change. To not act now is to write off those living in low-lying areas and risk turning our local climate into one unable to sustain farming. Act now.

Des Orsinelli, Ripon
