Dean Smeltzer: ‘Elegant’ strip club? Not on your life
Re “Downtown cabaret plan sure to rile morality police” (Page 3A, Aug. 2): I’ll cut to the chase: the adult industry brings negative consequences to the communities in which they reside. Families will be negatively affected. Crime, drugs and prostitution will all increase. We can’t afford that as a community. We’re barely keeping our heads above water with the crime we’re already dealing with.
Some people have the attitude of “if you don’t like it, don’t go!” But that won’t stop the deterioration of my community. Some people say “you’re going to waste tens of thousands of dollars fighting this.” Worth every penny if we can shut it down.
I am not going to sit by and watch this happen to my city. While this might just be one institution, it is something I believe we should nip in the bud. Don’t believe for one second that this place will be “elegant” or classy. Do your part and voice your concerns with our civic leaders. We can make a difference.
