Hope Schenke: Bible contains parallels to these trying times
We live in a very interesting and trying time. Can we find a parallel in history? Just as God blessed Israel, his chosen people, he also judged them and brought devastation upon them when they got away from following him.
Our country was founded on godly principles and was blessed as no other nation. But when we, too, take God out of our lives we are seeing destruction on every land. It is interesting to note that on the exact spot in New York City where George Washington and other founding fathers prayed on the day that America’s foundation was laid, and they came to commit the nation’s future and God’s holy foundation that we now know as a ground zero after the 9/11 attack. Does that not tell us something?
Hope Schenke, Turlock
Editor’s note: St. Paul’s Church is across the street from the Ground Zero; George Washington attended services there for two years while living in New York and it is where he prayed on his inauguration day in 1789.
