Jim P. Matthews: Maybe we shouldn’t turn away from photos of abandoned animals
Re “Inmate in work program posts photo online of euthanized shelter dogs” (Front page, June 29): I do not know what motivated inmate Chad Winchester to take a photo of euthanized dogs at the animal shelter and then post it; but I do know that every day across our country thousands of animals are put to death, their only crime being that they had nobody to love them (and give them a chance).
The surplus of pets is staggering and unforgivable. Yet, every day in The Bee and on craigslist we see ads by breeders whose avarice is greater than their compassion; putting yet another batch of puppies up for sale. I do not know all the answers, but I do know that it is good to be occasionally reminded of this senseless slaughter.
