Michael Rey Gascon: Lucas Museum belongs in Modesto
Re “Lucas museum just a dream?” (Page 3A, June 28): The Modesto Bee has two of the best newsmen in Jeff Jardine in local news and Ron Agostini in sports. Case in point, check out the story Jardine wrote about the Lucas Museum. The Presidio in San Franicsco didn’t want it in 2014, now Chicago doesn’t want it.
But as Jardine very eloquently states, Modesto would jump at the chance to put this American Graffiti and Star Wars museum where it belongs: in the little farm town where it all started for George Lucas, the grad from Downey High School.
Jardine even lays out how Lucas can go about placing his museum in Centre Plaza. What can be more perfect than having the American Graffiti museum on 10th Street? Think of the many visitors and revenue that would save the City Council a lot of money.
Hopefully, someone in the Lucas family will see and read Jardine’s wonderful article and place it in Lucas’ hands. Maybe he would then consider bringing his museum where it belongs.
