Daniel Brown: Forget Trump, does Denham want to destroy Medicare?
Re “Jeff Denham, do you support Trump or not?” (Page 1D, June 26): A more important question to ask Jeff Denham than does he support Trump, as posed by The Bee on Sunday, is does he support turning Medicare into a voucher system as proposed by Paul Ryan? This is an irrational proposal that would set back healthcare in America.
It is irrational because all the rest of the industrialized world has some form of national healthcare with a per capita cost that is half that of the United States and with outcomes that are equal to or better than ours. France even has doctors who make house calls and its cost are half of ours. But the Republicans continue to ignore the evidence, following their ideological path by claiming cost can be controlled best through competition. To cling to a principle in the face of evidence against it is irrational.
The question for Jeff Denham is: Do you represent our interests or do you feel compelled to follow the irrational policies of the Republican Party?
