Don Schneider: Downtown guides? To what, paved over 10th Street?

Re “Downtown to soon get a little sprucing up and guidance” (Page 1B, June 23): We are “sprucing up” downtown Modesto. Now we are getting guides and employees with brooms for downtown. Also, they will be especially trained in Sacramento. It would appear the downtown property owners are paying their taxes twice for most of these services and will probably lose the Downtown Improvement District because of the duplication.

Of course they will now be getting “guides.” Guides to where? Guides to what? Guides for who, the homeless? Would somebody please explain why this childlike thinking and designing has been allowed to take over common-sense management of our community? Oh, by the way, have you noticed they have again paved 10th Street between I and J just a couple of months after it was all paved with the new planters. It would appear even the expensive decorative “brick” overlays were paved over on part of the street.
