Maribell Diaz: Why did Riverbank lift conservation orders?
Re “Study sees years for drought recovery” (Page 6A, June 22): The city of Riverbank has been working hard at holding water wasters accountable. I believe in the city’s efforts to conserve water and have been doing my part. Many neighbors, however, waste water at all hours of the night and it angers me.
The Bee article states we are years away from recovering from the most severe drought in history.
Now the city manager has decided to pull the plug on water conservation for the city of Riverbank, since the state has lifted its Water Conservation Order. Riverbank was the worst city in the state and never met its reduction goals. All this tells me the city manager never cared about water conservation, it was all self-serving. Now, with no more threat of fines from the state, the city could care less how much water is being wasted. If we have another hot summer and little rain next winter we will be right back where we started. I don’t agree that the city’s efforts are for the right reasons. They don’t care about conserving precious natural resources.
