Sandra Souza-DeSimone: Graffiti a sign of rampant disrespect for Modesto
Re “Taking aim at graffiti problem” (Letters, Jan. 26): It seems Modesto’s graffiti problem is frustrating a lot of folks. What is happening in our once beautiful city is a travesty. Disrespect is rampant, as seen in the increase in graffiti, property crime and trash everywhere.
What happened to FDR’s work programs? We could use them today. The WPA once provided jobs for the unemployed; CCC used unemployed, unskilled workers in rural projects; CWA used unemployed workers to complete local projects. Maybe if more people were invested in improving Modesto we could actually start making headway. We need to do something soon. What are our officials doing about graffiti, crime and trash? Surely they see it, too.
