Rachel E. Ladd: Why is Turlock supporting visitors bureau?
I applaud Mayor Gary Soiseth for taking a hard look at the action by former Mayor John Lazar in providing the Turlock Chamber of Commerce such a huge budget for the visitor bureau. Turlock has more imminent needs for these funds, such as more police with better pay, crime prevention and road maintenance. Turlock does not need to sully its reputation with hints of impropriety. Can anybody explain why giving such an unprecedented amount to the Chamber of Commerce, and then joining its board, is not awkward?
