Katherine Borges: Salida absorbs another slap in the face from Modesto
Not one single inch of the Kiernan overpass/interchange touches Modesto; it is entirely within Salida’s boundaries. So why did the Modesto Chamber of Commerce do the ribbon cutting for the new interchange on June 20?
Proper etiquette would dictate that if CalTrans, StanCOG or Stanislaus County contacted the Modesto Chamber to do a ribbon-cutting for a freeway overpass in Salida that the Modesto Chamber should refer them to the Salida Chamber of Commerce. To add insult to injury, the Salida Chamber was not even contacted – let alone invited to the event. Just one more example of how all the Modesto chamber cares about is taking from Salida for Modesto’s gain. (“Modesto will revisit controversy about including Wood Colony in growth map” Front page, June 16).
A do-over ribbon-cutting should be held for the Salida Chamber of Commerce. It’s not like the construction is complete anyway, they are still installing the landscaping among other things.
