William H. Heinrich: Visit Wood Colony to see what you’ll destroy

Re “City to revisit growth map, Wood Colony plans” (Front page, June 16): I am writing in regard to the your front page article stating the city of Modesto will revisit growth into Wood Colony. I care deeply about people and believe most people do. Therefore, I suggest each council member and each supervisor visit the Old German Baptist Church on Covert Road some Sunday. Also a trip to their cemetery and school on Dakota Avenue would be good as well.

After you do this, you will see that to care deeply for these people is to leave them alone. To annex the “Beckwith Triangle” would be an invasion of their way of life. Both their cemetery and Christian school are across the road from the proposed “Beckwith Triangle” and would become a noisy and heavily traveled intrusion into their way of life. Can’t you just let them alone, or is growth more important than protecting these people’s way of life?

William H. Heinrich, Modesto
