Rita F. Silva: Want to stay in our country? Then don’t burn our flag

This is a letter to the people who are rioting, waving the Mexican flag and burning the American flag. What you are doing is not helping your cause, it is hurting it. We all know that Donald Trump is not going to deport all of the illegal immigrants in America; statistically, it isn’t possible. We should deport the ones with criminal records.

You need to prove that you are the kind of people we want in our country. So far, you aren’t doing that.

As for building the fence on the border, we have the right as a country to control the flow of people into America. Mexico has its’ military on their southern border, is that what you want to force us to do? I don’t care if burning our flag is legal according to the Supreme Court, it is wrong. A lot of things are legal, but that does not make it right.

I have lived with several presidents I didn’t agree with; that’s part of being a democracy. Embrace America or go back to your country and work to change it into the kind of country you want to live in.
