Bart Harvey: OID’s Knell has responsibility to all in the basin
Re “Groundwater issues shared at summit” (Page A1, Jan. 17): The topic of water use, conservation and sharing of available resources by all representatives and agencies involved with the committee was well presented. It is important that all committee members and agencies involved realize there must be some sacrifices made by everyone involved if the water needs can be met and shared by everyone in Stanislaus County. As committee chair Wayne Zipser stated, “it’s all about trust.”
Oakdale Irrigation District General Manager Steve Knell says he likes the concept of regionalization, but that constituents in his district come first. While he is responsible to the people in his district, he should also be aware that it is his responsibility, as well, to help people in Stanislaus County share this limited resource.
As a member of this important committee, it is also his responsibility to help share positive thoughts and ideas so that our available water resources can be utilized for all to share. If this means sharing water for the good of all, then so be it. Let’s all pull in one direction.
