Lee Ballance: Real scientists believe in man-made climate change

Re “Data doesn't make global warming real” (Letters, Jan. 23): The letter writer tells us that 31,487 scientists have signed a petition denying that climate change is caused by our burning of fossil fuels. Independent studies reveal that at least 97 percent of active climate scientists believe that climate change is real, is due to human activity and represents a serious risk to our planet. It is time that we listened to the experts and begin to take steps to reduce that risk.

Many fear that reducing our fossil-fuel consumption would damage our economy. The carbon fee and dividend proposal of the Citizens Climate Lobby would reduce our risk and improve our health while growing our economy. It is time for us and our legislators to take a serious look at this option.
