Bill Wood: Bernie holds key to Hillary’s future as a candidate

The decision point for the Democratic party is near. Hillary Clinton has not been able to decisively defeat Bernie Sanders, forcing him to concede to her candidacy. The decision will be driven by how Hillary does in the California primary. If she wins decisively, she might not be indicted. However the inspector general of the State Department has released his report. The timing of the release is extremely revealing.

It is a very damaging report. It establishes that she was not truthful, destroyed evidence and failed in safeguarding highly classified information. If after the California primary the party decides she does not have a very good chance in the general election the FBI will turn over to the Justice Department an ironclad case against her and she will have to give up her quest for the nomination. At that point Joe Biden will emerge as a candidate and it will be “Go with Joe” time!

On the other hand if she defeats Bernie decisively and Bernie quits and pledges not to run as an independent, then she is good to go for the nomination. However Bernie in not a Dem, he is an independent. If he runs as an independent, Hillary is gone from politics.
