Kathleen Rowe-Glendon: Visiting editors hit on problem of bigotry in our community
Two visiting editors at The Bee wrote recent columns, one on racism and the other on the current dispute regarding gender inclusive restrooms. I think we are missing a valid point that both of these columns have in common. They both discuss rampant bigotry in our city, county and country.
One only has to go on social media to hear what the internet trolls have to say about these issues. They are inciting verbal riots by advocating the building of walls to keep out illegal immigrants, the banning any Muslims from coming to this country and buying guns to guard our children from the evils of inclusive public restrooms.
I think we are ignoring the bigger picture, that of institutional bigotry that is now slowly seeping into public perceptions.
Donald Trump’s presidential bid did not come out of a vacuum. We need to find a way to stem this tide before it’s too late.
