Anita Bruce: Why worry about a few rich kids if you can help millions of others?

Re “Clinton hits rival but mostly blasts Trump’s stances” (Page 5A, May 7): Hillary Clinton calls Bernie Sanders’ plan for free tuition at public universities “unworkable and overly generous to wealthy Americans.” She goes on to say she does not want to pay for Trump’s kids and grandkids to go to college. This statement just underscores how out of touch she is with the world most Americans are living in now.

How many billionaires’ kids are we talking about? I would argue, compared to the number of college-age Americans trying to work their way through college, very few. And I would venture to guess that most billionaires are sending their kids to elite private universities, just as the Clintons sent daughter Chelsea to Stanford.

This article is another example of the bubble Clinton is living in. She doesn’t want to pay for rich kids to attend college? Well, I do! If this means that all other Americans can attain a college degree without enormous debt, yes.

She needs to step out of her bubble, push away from the $350,000 dinner plates and spend more time talking to real people.
