Dale Butler: El Concilio delves into important issues at monthly meetings
El Concilio provides an excellent informational and educational forum at its monthly Coalition meetings at 11:30 a.m. on the last Thursday of every month at 1314 H Street. At our most recent meeting, for example, we heard from Amanda Hughes of Stanislaus READS! (Ready, Engaged, Able, Determined Students) on the importance of children having access to educational learning activities throughout the year so they won’t fall behind when school is out of session.
Thanks to the Stanislaus Community Foundation and other community organizations, Stanislaus READS! is doing a great job helping children through Little Free Libraries at local medical clinic sites, involvement of parents at local schools, parent cafes, during summer enrichment programs, and the Bee a Reader Fund – a project supported by The Modesto Bee.
I commend El Concilio for hosting monthly presentations to inform and empower our community on important issues. I also encourage your attendance at these worthwhile meetings.
Dale Butler, Modesto
