Mary Burch: DeMartini has been there for developmentally disabled

Re “Road tax, Crows Landing plan among District 5 race issues” (Front page, May 1): In regards to Jim DeMartini keeping his seat on the Stanislaus County Board Of Supervisors, I say by all means he should be the one to keep his seat.

I served on the In-Home Supportive Services advisory board for over four years and also the board of directors for the Developmentally Disabled for four years. I know first-hand how the disabled can be mishandled or misunderstood for all of their needs. I have been before the board of supervisors on many occasions fighting for the rights of these beautiful people.

Being a caregiver for my daughter Christy, I know first-hand of many occasions that their needs have been mishandled by those whose job it is to oversee their needs. We, as a community, need someone like Jim who is honest and caring of our community and special services. I know that Jim will always be there for us; he was faithful in attending all of the meetings for the United Domestic Workers meetings that he possibly could. I thank him for that. Yes, by all means, vote for Jim DeMartini.

Mary Burch, Modesto
