Virginia Lundquist: McClure Mansion hasn’t always been ignored
Re “If you want to see what’s left of McClure collection, go to McHenry Mansion” (Page 3A, April 26): Bittersweet is the sentiment I’m feeling for the loss of this magnificent mansion. Thanks, Jeff Jardine, for chronicling its unfortunate demise. In 1997, my son, Jason Lundquist, organized his Eagle Scout Project at the McClure house. The city donated instruction and resources to paint the mansion. Jason had a huge turnout of volunteers who painted the outside in less than a day. He was featured in The Bee, along with three other scouts who earned their Eagles.
His successful project led to years of recognition and accolades based on that project – it even had overarching influence on his eventual career choice.
Lastly, as family and friends, we experienced the fruits of that labor when the next Decorator’s Showcase was at the McClure. The inside and outside shined – perhaps more spectacularly than ever. The McClure Mansion is already missed.
It features a story on my son Jason Lundquist and three other scouts from Troop 113 who earned their Eagles.)
