Jayne Cunningham: If both sides flexible, X-Fest could be a win-win
Let’s work for a win-win! After reading various articles regarding the X-Fest, I think we could find a way to serve both agendas.
1. Many of the restaurants are concerned about loss of revenue that night. With plenty of time, why not design a menu that would attract crowd – such as small box dinners, sack lunches, etc. to compete with vendors from the outside.
2. Move the location! Come on, we have other options. Let’s be flexible.
3. Don’t expect our police to work with one hand tied behind their backs. Both sides should hire enough security to provide adequate safety for all businesses, the crowd and the city.
4. Don’t make our local businesses lose wages for their employees or the festival lose a golden opportunity to have a fun-filled night. Make this work for all of us. City council, you have a chance to solve this problem and turn it into a win-win situation. Both sides must give and take. Don’t turn this into a pointing finger at one group. Work for Modesto.
5. Don’t let outsiders cause us to lose this event like we lost cruise night. Take back our town.
