Donald A. Mowry: Editor’s note not helpful in admonishing water wasters
I was really disappointed in your response to the writer of “Will city follow its own water rules?” (Letters, April 17) about the apparent, ongoing excessive watering of school grounds at Beyer High School. To say “The city does not control the watering practices at any school district or schools” is true for the actual water scheduling. However, at Beyer High School the city provides all water to the school for personal use and irrigation.
In view of that, it seems that, while the city may not control the irrigation scheduling, they would have considerable influence in how much water is used and whether or not they are being wasteful. In the current drought condition, we should all be concerned with any apparent/obvious abuse or misuse of available water. While I do not live in Modesto, we all share the area’s water and I found this particular “editor’s note” to be troublesome as it well could have been someone from my community. No response would have been better than to pass the buck.
