Mark Schmitz: Let the people, not the party, pick the candidate

What is the point of the public voting in the presidential primary election? It appears our vote has nothing to do with who becomes the nominee of the party.

The delegate system is an absolute farce. Government is supposed to be “by the people, for the people and of the people,” not “by the delegate, for the delegate and of the delegate.”

I am not a Trump or Cruz supporter, but when Trump wins a vote by the people and Cruz goes in after the election and steals all or most of the delegates Trump won, that makes the electoral process a joke. It obviously doesn’t matter what we the people think or want; it is what the GOP wants.

As far as I am concerned, and I am definitely not alone, the whole election process is a complete phony. What we the people want when we vote for a candidate makes no difference because the stolen, chosen, bought-and-paid-for delagates are going to give the election to the candidate the party wants. Our presidential primary electoral process is a big fraud. There should be no delegates period. We the people should determine the candidate.
